Self Knowledge Emerges from Mini-Experiments
Yesterday, my morning routine got disrupted.
I normally journal, stretch, and do 5 minutes of meditation in the morning.
But my daughter woke up 30 minutes earlier than normal. SO instead, I got her dressed and we had breakfast and I took her to school early.
On most days, I start work by 940am. But yesterday, I was home and ready to work at 905. So I started journaling right away, and jumped into the 930 3-sprint Cave which I’m not usually ready for. By lunchtime, I had plowed through 2 out of 3 of my biggest tasks for the day.
So I stopped and took a moment to reflect on this experience.
How did I feel? Accomplished. In Flow.
Do I want to adopt this new way of working? If I can, yes, but it’ll be rare for me to repeat this.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll adjust my schedule to get into that 930 Cave.
Every shift in your day is an experiment.
It doesn’t have to be something that sets you off track. Maybe something that takes you on a new one.
It’s a moment to test out a new way of working and reflect on whether or not this new way works better for you or not. The more you know about how you work best, the more often you’ll be AT your best at work.
